FG School District welcomes citizens to open house

Community members are invited to tour the new science classrooms, gymnasium, cafeteria and other improvements at Forest Grove High School during a “Bond Celebration & Open House” on Thursday, Nov. 14.

The new facilities were made possible by voter support of a $65.3 million bond measure in 2010.

Student-led tours will be offered from 4 to 6 p.m., with a ceremony at 5:30 p.m.

Pacific’s MFA in Writing ranked high again

Pacific University’s Master of Fine Arts in Writing program has once again been recognized as one of the best low-residency programs by Poets & Writers magazine.

Pacific’s master’s in writing program was ranked third in Poets & Writers “2013 Popularity Survey” for low-residency North American MFA degrees, Pacific’s highest MFA placing in its nine-year history.

As a low-residency program, students and faculty meet twice a year to participate in 10-day residencies. The rest of the year, students correspond with an advisor, receiving personalized feedback and advice.

Banks School Board fills opening

The Banks School Board appointed Ron Frame to fill a vacancy on Monday, Oct. 28. Frame, a longtime Banks resident, has a child attending Banks Elementary School. Former board member Maureen Okerstrom resigned from her position Sept. 9.
