Valley Art sets reception for photography, clay artists

by: COURTESY PHOTO: JOHN PEDERSEN - Photographer John Pedersen has taken photographs all over the world, but finds himself drawn to the rugged western U.S. Head to Valley Art Gallery, 2022 Main St. in Forest Grove, on Saturday, Jan.11 for an opening reception for artists John Pedersen, Brenda Somes and Robynn Fulfs.

Refreshments will be served 2 to 4 p.m., and attendees can ask artists questions and admire their work.

Pedersen and Somes will showcase their photographs and Fulfs’ stylized clay animals will be on display.

Pedersen’s award-winning photography depicts his love of nature and the visual arts. Even after traveling the world, Pedersen’s passion remains in photographing the western United States.

In her photographs, Somes tries to recapture all the senses of the photograph’s scene using a visual medium. Somes, who lives and works in Forest Grove, has been printing her work on a metallic base since 2006, which plays with light reflection in her images.

Fulfs uses her background growing up on an Eastern Washington wheat farm to capture movement and quirks of animals in clay.

Valley Art Gallery, a nonprofit, displays local artists’ works, offers classes and sponsors community events such as the annual Sidewalk Chalk Art Festival.
