Forest Grove High School, Neil Armstrong Middle School and Oak Grove Academy have new leadership.

There will be several new faces at Forest Grove schools for the start of the upcoming 2018-19 school year. Forest Grove School District has hired two new assistant principals at Forest Grove High School, a new assistant principal at Neil Armstrong Middle School and a new program coordinator at Oak Grove Academy, according to a press release from district spokesman David Warner.

Jennifer Coleman will take the place of previous assistant principal Nicole Hilton at FGHS, and funding from Measure 98 will be used to add a new position for a second assistant principal, which will be filled by Colene Lord, Warner said.COURTESY PHOTO: DAVID WARNER - Jennifer ColemanCOURTESY PHOTO: DAVID WARNER - Colene Lord

"Both of these positions will serve a critical role in meeting the level of accountability associated with the High School Success Act in the following areas: increasing grad rates, increasing 9th grade on track, addressing chronic absenteeism, increasing college opportunities and increasing Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses," Warner wrote.

Juliana Kelly has been hired as the new assistant principal at Neil Armstrong, according to Warner. She is being hired shortly after Osvaldo Garcia-Contreras was moved from assistant principal to head principal at Neil Armstrong.

"Ms. Kelly has been the Dean of Students for the past year and the English Language Development Facilitator for past five years at Fern Hill Elementary School. She has also served in key leadership roles such as substitute principal at various schools throughout the district," Warner said.COURTESY PHOTO: DAVID WARNER - Juliana Kelly

Christa Slaughter will step in as the new program coordinator at Oak Grove Academy and will be replacing Cassie Kenney, who has taken a new role as special education administrator for the secondary level, Warner said.

"Ms. Slaughter has been a part of the Oak Grove Academy staff as a Mental Health Specialist for the past three years. Prior to her time with OGA, Slaughter worked as a Mental Health Therapist and a Skills Counselor/Mentor with the Professional Therapeutic Community Network in Salem and Portland," Warner wrote.COURTESY PHOTO: DAVID WARNER - Christa Slaughter

All four of the new hires will begin their roles on July 1 of this year, Warner said.
