West Shore Drive at Hagg Lake to close next month
A road closure will cause some extended disruptions to traffic around Henry Hagg Lake this spring.
The Washington County Department of Land Use & Transportation announced Thursday, March 29, that a portion of West Shore Drive will close beginning Tuesday, April 10, for repair and maintenance work.
The closure will be between Hankins and Sain Creek roads, on the west side of the lake — a popular recreation spot in the summer months, situated to the west of the Gaston area.
Crews will replace three culverts, repair the Scoggins and Sain creek bridges, perform a pavement overlay and upgrade a guardrail, among other work, during the closure.
The county has tentatively scheduled the road closure to last through May 8, but the Department of Land Use & Transportation advised that it could last until as late as June 9 if the Washington County Board of Commissioners approves a proposed road settlement repair.
Roadwork on West Shore Drive will continue through the summer as part of a larger and ongoing county project to improve Hagg Lake's "perimeter roads" and stabilize landslides in the area. The Department of Land Use & Transportation said two additional closures are planned, but they have yet to be scheduled.
Construction is expected to wrap up by the beginning of October.
