by: COURTESY PHOTO - The Oregon Shadow Puppet Theatre will perform Thumbelina tonight at the Forest Grove Library at 7 p.m.Local little ones can delight in a unique presentation of Thumbelina this week.

The Forest Grove Library will host The Oregon Shadow Puppet Theatre tonight at 7 p.m. in the Rogers meeting room, where kids 5 years and older can delight in illusions displayed by the award-winning shadow plays.

The Oregon Shadow Puppet Theatre has toured the U.S. and Canada, and performed at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington D.C., the Northwest Puppet Center in Seattle and the Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta.

Shadow puppetry uses specialized lighting such as overhead projectors, reflectors, projected films, head lamps and hand-held lights to illuminate 3D puppets made of paper, plastic, wood, cloth, feathers and more and create the moving shadows the audience sees.

Deb Chase and Mick Doherty will produce the show.

Chase has specialized in shadow puppetry since 1980, and has created numerous shadow plays for OST and many other theater companies. She has taught shadow puppetry for years in schools as an artist in residence at schools and theaters and has been a shadow puppetry consultant for Puppeteers of America.

Doherty is an accomplished performing and studio musician who specializes in folk traditions. He has composed music for theater, video and film productions, and has toured internationally as a solo performer and ensemble member.Well known puppeteers are coming to the Forest Grove Library tonight.

Doherty has pursued studies in voice, classical guitar, string bass, Persian santoor and African percussion, and currently performs with the eight-piece group the Trail Band and with the Cascadia Folk Quartet.
