The Forest Grove cross country team continued their 2017 dominance with a clean sweep of North Salem and McNary in a three-way dual meet at Neil Armstrong Middle School in Cornelius, improving to 4-0 on the season heading into this week's bye.
The boys were again led by the one-two punch of brothers Quincy and Max Norman. Sophomore Quincy was first in the race, finishing the 5K course with a time of 17:03. It was the second time in as many duals that the standout runner, who finished second in last year's OSAA 6A State 3000 Meters, has broken the tape, and fourth in as many races overall. Max Norman was second with a time of 17:14 and ran most of the way with his brother before falling back at the end.
The Viking boys took seven of the top-10 spots, including Gavin Vance in fourth with a time of 17:24, sophomore Osker Almeda in fifth with a time of 17:30, and Isaac Lopez-Haas (18:00), Jonathan Wallace (18:10), and Ben Schnorr (18:15) placing sixth, seventh and eighth.
The girls also finished one-two in the race with the league foes from Salem, paced by junior Hannah Aguirre and senior Hannah Berdahl who crossed the finish line together with a time of 19:17, 16 seconds ahead of third place finisher Abi Swain from North Salem. The next group of four Forest Grove finishers finished within seven seconds of each other, led by sophomore Joelle Thacker in fifth place with a time of 20:44, junior Elizabeth Khoury sixth with a time of 20:44, and junior Mila Lumae (20:45) and sophomore Cynthia Torres (20:51) in seventh and eighth. Lucia Mendoza (21:01) also finished 10th as the Vikings placed seven in the top-10.
Next the Vikings run Saturday, September 30 at the Nike Portland Cross Country Invitational at Portland Meadows Race Track, where they'll compete against more than 150 schools from eight different states before returning home Wednesday October 4 to continue their Greater Valley Conference schedule against Sprague and McKay.
