OASIS SENIOR ADVISORS - Seth Dickinson and Breana Nickila If you're concerned about whether you'll be able to afford long-term care if the need arises, take a look at long-term care insurance. It's the best way to preserve your estate for your children and to ensure you are not a burden on them.

All policies are different, with some paying for in-home care, care outside of the home - or both. LTCI is a lifeline for many people, as we are living longer, sometimes with two or more health ailments.

What should you know about long-term care insurance? Here are a few suggestions from longtermcare.acl.gov/:

Don't buy more insurance than you think you may need. You may have enough income to pay a portion of your care costs, using only a small policy for the remainder.

Don't buy too little insurance. That will only delay the use of your own assets or income to pay for care. While you can usually decrease your coverage, it is more difficult to increase coverage.

For professional advice and service, we recommend calling Adam R. French at Bankers Life and Casualty Co., 5933 N.E. Join us at OASIS Senior Advisors on Wednesday, Aug. 9 at noon for a "drop-in" housing consultation forum at Jazzy Bagels. In addition to answering your questions, we'll be serving up bagels and coffee. This will be a monthly event, on the second Wednesday of each month. Call for details!
