by: MULTMONAH COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE - BEASLEY

An H.B. Lee Middle School teacher is in jail on allegations of six sex-related crimes.

John W. Beasley, 53, of outer Northeast Portland faces six charges, including four counts of first-degree sexual abuse, one count of first-degree sodomy and one count of first-degree unlawful sexual penetration.

Portland police arrested Beasley, a seventh-grade social studies teacher, on Wednesday, Sept. 18, at his home. He is being held on $1.5 million bail at the Multnomah County Detention Center.

H.B. Lee Principal Dan Kimbrow issued a letter to parents the day after the arrest, stating that the Reynolds School District didn’t have any reason to believe any district children were involved in the charges.

District Spokeswoman Andrea Watson said the district hired Beasley in 2005 and he also worked at Reynolds Learning Academy.

She said the district was calling parents immediately to notify them of the arrest. The district did not have any additional information about Beasley’s arrest.
