Driver of car is charged with DUII, negligent homicide

Peggy J. Jennen, 73, of Oregon City, died Wednesday night after she was somehow ejected from her friend's car and was then run over by another car.

The accident occurred in the 1800 block of Northwest Division Street near the intersection with Northwest Bella Vista Place at about 11:40 p.m. Wednesday.

The driver of the car Jennen was riding in, Lisa A. Wilson, 52, of Troutdale, was arrested under suspicion of criminally negligent homicide, driving under the influence of intoxicants, reckless driving and reckless endangerment.

The East County Vehicular Crimes Team is investigating to determine “exactly how and why Jennen was ejected” from the passenger side of Wilson's 1999 Volkswagen Passat.

Gresham police reported Wilson was turning from westbound Northwest Division Street to southbound Northwest Bella Vista Place when Jennen was ejected from the car.

Apparently, according to police, Jennen was lying in the intersection when she was struck by a 1991 Nissan Sentra driven by Curtis Kato, 58, of Gresham.

Kato remained at the scene and is cooperating with authorities.

He was not speeding or under the influence and has not been charged.

Wilson's blood alcohol concentration was above the legal limit, police said. She is being held at the Multnomah County jail with bail set at $27,500.
