Essay contest asks students ‘Why I like Fairview’

Attention students in Fairview: What do you like about living in Fairview?

The City Council wants to know.

The city is hosting an essay contest, “Why I like Fairview,” and is interested in hearing the stories of young people.

Students must reside in Fairview and in be in grades K through 12.

Essay judges will consist of Fairview City Council members.

Winning essays from each level will be published in the Fairview Point, the city’s monthly newsletter. Entry forms and essays must be submitted to Devree Leymaster, city recorder, by 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 30.

Winning essays will be revealed May 21.

Entry forms are available at or may be picked up at Fairview City Hall.

Garden club hosts plant sale in Corbett April 26

The Columbian Garden Sale is hosting its annual plant sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at the Corbett Fire Hall, 36930 E. Historic Columbia River Highway.

The garden club will sell trees, perrenials, annuals, fruits, vegetables, shrubs, native plants, roses and specialty plants.

If traveling from Gresham, go east on Stark Street to the Historic Columbia River Highway; turn right and drive approximately 4.6 miles to the fire station on the right.

From Portland, travel east on Interstate 84. Take Exit 22. Turn right onto Northeast Corbett Hill Road and drive to top of the hill. Turn left onto the Historic Columbia River Highway and drive 0.2 miles to the fire station on the right.

There will be lots of free parking behind the fire station.
