Reporter to look at the Boring-Dull, Scotland, connection

And they’ll get even more now that the British Broadcasting Corporation is coming to town next week.

BBC reporter Glenn Campbell said in an email the main reason for the trip with a cameraman and producer is to work on a TV documentary about a woman who lives in Portland.

But when Campbell started looking around for other stories to cover in Oregon, he came across the Boring-Dull connection.

“I loved that the town of Boring had been twinned with the village of Dull in Scotland. This partnership has already seen some coverage in Scotland, but we have never sent a camera to Boring to see what it’s like,” he wrote. “So that’s the idea really. To see what Boring looks like, to meet the locals and hear from them what it’s like to live in Dull’s twin town.”

Steve Bates, president of the Boring Community Planning Organization, said Campbell got in touch with him and said he would submit a schedule soon for his visit. Bates said the Clackamas County commissioners are excited about getting attention from the BBC, as is the Clackamas Tourist Commission, but nothing has been set up yet because Bates hasn’t received Campbell’s schedule.

So far, Campbell has plans to interview Bates, since he’s been instrumental in promoting the Boring-Dull connection, and also Bob Boring, a descendant of Boring founder and Civil War veteran William H. Boring.

Campbell said in his email that the schedule is still being finalized, but he and his crew most likely will be in Boring sometime between April 16 and 18.
