Comcast awarded $79,000 to 61 Oregon and southwest Washington students as part of its annual Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program.

School board members graduate

Sharon Garner and John Hartsock, Gresham-Barlow School Board members, were among 20 area school board members who graduated from the Oregon School Boards Association's Leadership Oregon program.

In the six full days of training, school board members learn about education issues, and polish leadership, communication and advocacy skills.

They also plug into a network of education leaders all over Oregon.

NW Credit Union awards scholarships

Two Gresham-area students were among 22 statewide that were awarded scholarships from Northwest Community Credit Union.

The $1,000 scholarship winners "have demonstrated dedication to creating a positive impact in their community."

The awards went to Olivia Normand, who is graduating from Barlow High School in 2017 and plans to attend the University of Oregon, and Kylee O'Brien, a 2014 Centennial High School graduate who attends Oregon State University.

Make a hair clip

Artist Addy Escobedo will show children and their families how to make hair clips using recyclable materials, such as wood, ribbon, feathers or other materials.
