Gresham woman dies in single-vehicle crash in Gilliam County
A Gresham woman was killed on Tuesday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 84 near milepost 118 in Gilliam County.
Oregon State Police Troopers from The Dalles Area Command responded to a report of a crash around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 11.
The preliminary investigation indicated Effie P. Burns, 22, of Gresham was driving a gray 1996 Honda Civic four-door westbound in the fast lane and lost control of her vehicle. The vehicle crossed the slow lane and left the roadway, coming to rest against a dirt/rock embankment. The driver was ejected from the vehicle. Emergency personnel attempted life saving measures, but Burns succumbed to her injuries, OSP reported.
An infant child passenger who was properly secured in a child-safety seat was not seriously injured. The child was transported to Mid-Columbia Medical Center in The Dalles to be evaluated.
Oregon State Police was assisted at the scene by the Gilliam County Sheriff's Department, Gilliam County Emergency Services, Life Flight, and Oregon Department of Transportation.
