Damascus residents Garey and Janiece Wood celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday, June 25, with a reception at Cedarville Lodge in Gresham.
A barbecue buffet, catered by their daughter, carried a "country and rock & roll" theme and was attended by more than 100 family members and friends. Guests, who came from as far away as Maine and Nebraska, enjoyed dancing to oldies and country music, as well as a photo booth. The couple's granddaughter, Isabella, also performed a special song for the occasion.
The couple was married Jan. 28, 1967, in Bell Gardens, Calif.
Garey retired from Qwest in 2000. He then went on to work for Skipper & Jordan Nursery, Allied Fire & Security and Metro Safety and Fire. He is a volunteer with the military support group, A.M.E.N., and a member of the Marine Corps Color Guard.
Janiece is a reitred legal assistant and business owner. She is part of the Crafty Ones Quilt Group.
Garey and Janiece are members of Good Shepherd Community Church in Boring, Powellhurst Baptist Church in Portland and Cornerstone Community Church in Gresham.
They are the parents of Karey Kirk, of Gresham, Donna Thompson, of Boring, and Alaina Wilson of Ashland, Neb. Garey and Janiece have 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
