A Troutdale man was arrested for theft by deception and a parole violation after police said he mislead fire authorities into providing him with firefighting clothing and gear.
Cody Scott Cunningham, 23, received the turnouts inside the evacuation zone Wednesday night, and was later tracked down and arrested in Troutdale, police say.
"We don't know what his intentions were but, certainly, they were not good." Multnomah County Sheriff Mike Reese told reporters Thursday, Sept. 7. "I would assume that he was telling fire officials that he was a firefighter or related to fire prevention."
In 2014, Cunningham plead guilty to luring a minor and attempt to commit a felony after prosecutors dropped a charge of second-degree online corruption of a minor. He also has been convicted of riding an ATV without a helmet and for riding on the highway.
