Holiday season events abound in Gresham area
For those of you already in the holiday spirit, check out some of the local celebrations on tap in the coming weeks. They include:
Spirit of Christmas — The 26th-annual Spirit of Christmas tree lighting, one of Gresham's most popular events, will ring in the holiday season with a family-friendly program. From 5 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, enjoy music, photos with Santa, refreshments and the lighting of the 60-foot Ponderosa pine in the Gresham Arts Plaza, 401 N.E. Second St.
The free event is preceded by fun activities in downtown Gresham, and the tree lighting will occur at 6 p.m.
Troutdale festivities — Celebrate the 'Season of Giving' in downtown Troutdale from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, in Mayor's Square City Park, Troutdale. The festivities begin with holiday music, hot chocolate, coffee and cider, followed by the tree lighting at 6 p.m. Santa is expected to arrive after the lighting.
Christmas at the Harlow House — Santa and Mrs. Claus will be present for photos at the 117-year-old farmhouse, which is decked out for the holidays, from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, at 726 E. Historic Columbia River Highway. Cookies and hot wassail will also be served. Admission is free to all ages.
Wood Village Tree Lighting — Celebrate the Trees of Lights, the eighth-annual Wood Village Tree Lighting Ceremony, Saturday, Dec. 2, at Wood Village City Hall, 2055 N.E. 238th Drive. The lighting is at 6 p.m., followed by refreshments and a visit from Santa at 6:30 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde, and kids can get a free gift courtesy of Kohl's. The Reynolds High School Expressions Choir will give a special musical performance.
Christmas in Fairview — The 11th-annual Fairview Christmas Tree Lighting will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, near Fairview City Hall, 1300 N.E. Village St. The event is free and all are welcome. The tree lighting is planned for 6 p.m. with a planned visit from Santa, holiday music, story time, refreshments and more. Christmas in Boring — Beginning at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3, there will be caroling at the boring Station Trailhead Park, 28198 Keller Road. Then Santa will make an arrival on an antique fire truck at 5:15 p.m. to light the community's tree alongside children. Beverages and cookies will be served at the Boring-Damascus Grange. Donations of nonperishable food and unwrapped toys will be accepted for the Clackamas Fire Department's Giving Tree Program.
