West Orient teacher achieves certification
Tina Bethmann, West Orient Middle School eighth-grade teacher, was scheduled to be recognized at Gresham-Barlow's Thursday, Jan. 4, school board meeting for renewing her national board certification.
There have been 324 national board certified teachers in Oregon and Gresham-Barlow currently has 15.
The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards certification is a rigorous process only a small percentage of teachers undertake.
Earning national certification is a long and grueling process of compiling portfolios of work, taking classes and tests. It generally requires hundreds of hours of unpaid work by the teacher.

A mandatory host family orientation will be held on the MHCC campus on the evening of Jan. 19.
