Wells Fargo, Blazers grant
will be used for new books
Hollydale Elementary School recently received a $4,000 gift from the Trail Blazers Foundation and Wells Fargo & Co. Fourth-grade teacher Chastity Clegg applied for the grant and was presented with the check at the March 17 Blazer game.
The money will be used to buy books in Spanish, Russian and some of the other 13 languages spoken by the 430 students at the school. The books will be used in a reading program involving parents and other adult volunteers to promote dual literacy.
All told, the Blazers Foundation and Wells Fargo awarded $110,000 in grants from $500 to $9,500 this year benefiting hundreds of high-risk and low- and moderate-income students at 24 schools across Oregon and Southwest Washington.
In the past four years, the Trail Blazers Foundation and Wells Fargo have presented $385,000 in grants to 73 deserving local schools through the "Take It To the Court For Education" program.
