Hollydale principal Debra James honored by Gresham-Barlow, science stars win at fair

Hollydale principal honored by district

Debra James, principal at Hollydale Elementary School, was named Gresham-Barlow School District's Instructional Leader of the Year. Rolland Hayden, principal at Gordon Russell Middle School and Kimberly Miles, principal at East Gresham Elementary School, were runners-up.

The winners were selected by a team of district employees that included teachers, administrators and support staff.

Join board of the Corbett Foundation

The Corbett Education Foundation, an all-volunteer nonprofit organization that supports Corbett schools, needs more board members.

The demand for scholarships has increased, and the board needs help with administering those grants. The Foundation also does fundraising. There is one meeting per month. Call 503-261-4252 from 6-8 p.m. Monday evenings for more information.

Regional science fair stars recognized

Several Gresham High School students grabbed honors at the Gresham-Barlow Science Expo (GBSE) in March.

Isaac Klementis earned the first place award in Cellular and Molecular Biology, Microbiology, & Plant Sciences and the NASA award and will advance to the Intel Northwest competition at Portland State University on Friday, April 13. Klementis also secured a berth at the Intel International Science Expo in Pittsburgh, Pa., in mid-May.

Josh Ramsey, earned the first place award in Chemistry and advances to the state competition.

Marian Roshdy's project won second place in Chemistry, and she also advances to the state competition.

Brynna Lutz was awarded the OSU College of Engineering Scholarship at the Expo.

The GBSE is the regional at-large science fair for the state of Oregon in the Northwest Science Expo Fair System and is affiliated with the Intel International Science Fair.

Outlet mall hosts monthly kids clubs

The Columbia Gorge Outlets mall hosts a free, fun event for children from 9-10 a.m. the first Tuesday of every month.

Children meet a new character, get to dress up, have snacks and more. The next Adventure Club for Kids will be May 1 at 450 N.W. 257th Way, Troutdale.
