Bushues invite public to savor local flavors
Flowers are blossoming and rainy season lingers. To celebrate spring and encourage people to support the local agricultural community, Bushue's Family Farm in Boring is hosting its fifth-annual Taste of Local event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 28.
Throughout the year, the Bushues share multiple opportunities for people to visit their farm at 9880 S.E. Revenue Road, with u-pick berries in the summer and a pumpkin patch in the fall. But Taste of Local is unique in that it's a collaborative event.
"I enjoy seeing all of the people," said Lara Bushue, a fourth generation resident of the farm. "It's fun that people get excited about the agricultural products they find here."
Vendors planning to attend include Buddha Kat Winery, Mt. Hood Roasters, Boring Goats, Leaning Star Winery, Boring Brewing and Winery, Cheeky Little Piggy Farm, Eagle Creek Lavender, Lamon Bee Acres, Sugar Maple Swine, Chariteas and Bill Hoyt's beef and lamb. Lunch will be available for purchase from Busy Bee Catering.
"People know each other, and they always run into someone they know here," co-owner Helen Bushue added.
This event is also opening day for the Bushues' greenhouse stock. Flowering baskets and a variety of vegetable starts and flowers will be out for sale and as raffle prizes.
Most vendors will offer samples of their products as well as items for purchase.
