Schools hold budget committee meetings, Gresham High students display art at Gresham Library

The Mt. Hood Community College District will hold a budget meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, in the Board Room, AC 2359, 26000 S.E. Stark St.

The Board of Education will review the 2018-19 budget and take comments from the public.

GHS students display art at Gresham Library

Gresham High School's International Baccalaureate students will show their art through May 25 at the Gresham Library, 385 N.W. Miller Ave. Call 503-988-5123 for more information.

Make a roller coaster sculpture at the library

Artists from Puppetkabob will lead children and their grown-ups in creating architectural designs by twisting and twirling strips of paper at a free workshop from 11 a.m. to noon Friday, May 11, at the Troutdale Library, 2451 S.W. Cherry Park Road.

Puppetkabob artists will show participants how to transform everyday construction paper into the ultimate roller coaster.

Learn how critters eat at Leach Garden workshop

Children and adults can explore how the food animals eat affects their bodies and behavior — including yours — at a free workshop from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Leach Botanical Garden, 6704 S.E. 122nd Ave., Portland.

There will be lots of skulls on display from alligators to camels.

Participants can also explore the gardens, play a salmon run game, watch the slug races, make an animal mask, listen to a story, hear live music, try ikebana, slurp some ice-cream and chomp some popcorn among other activities.

Gresham-Barlow budget committee meets at CAL

The Gresham-Barlow District Budget Committee will meet 7 p.m. May 10, at the Center for Advanced Learning, 1484 N.W. Civic Drive.

The committee will discuss the budget for the 2018-19 school year and take comments from the public.

Mariachi band plays Troutdale

Mariachi Viva Mexico will rock the Troutdale Library, 2451 S.W. Cherry Park Road, from 6-7 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, with a free concert for all ages.

This lively Mariachi band includes trumpets, violins, guitars, guitaron and vihuelas to create fun, spirited music. Call 503-988-5123 for more information.
