Hoops Classic gets a top-10 clash in Saturdays finale
Portland Lutheran advances to the title game with a 59-47 win over Hosanna Christian
The Portland Lutheran boys rushed out of the gates and never looked back during a 59-47 win over Hosanna Christian in the semifinals of the 1A Hoops Classic Friday night.
The Blue Jays Bryce Lowrey got it started with a 3-pointer from the top of the circle, and he helped finish it by flying out of bounds to save an errant pass. He twisted his body in mid-air and tossed the ball underneath to center Dylan DeGeneres for a quick two and a 15-0 lead.
Portland Lutheran had all five starters get into the scorebook in the first quarter, building a 22-7 margin when Jonathan Parrish grabbed a loose ball off the floor and beat the clock with a jumper from the free-throw line.
The Blue Jays carried a double-digit lead throughout the game.
That sets up a clash of top-10 teams in Saturdays 8 p.m. finale when the No. 8-ranked Blue Jays (9-1) take on No. 4 Triangle Lake (9-1).
The girls finale matches No. 1 Triangle Lake (7-3) against McKenzie (5-2) at 6:30 p.m.
