Mt. Hood CC stays unbeaten with a Sunday sweep over SW Oregon

by: THE OUTLOOK: DAVID BALL - Mt. Hoods Teauna Hughes slides safely back to first base after surviving a rundown in the base paths in Game 1. The Mt. Hood CC softball team came through in crunch time Sunday to extend its win streak to 18 games to start the season.

The Saints pulled even 1-1 when pinch-hitter Laura Lesowske drew a bases-loaded walk with no one out in the seventh inning. SW Oregon made a pitching change and reliever Samantha Burks converted back-to-back outs before facing Mt. Hood’s top hitter Teauna Hughes, who connected with a hard-hit bouncer toward third base.

The Lakers’ Jorden Gerlach stopped the ball with her glove, but with runners in motion and rushed to make a play. The ball slipped out of her glove and fell at her feet, allowing Megan Reed to sprint across the plate.

Game over. Saints win 2-1.

Mt. Hood overcame a pair of deficits to win the second game 7-3, moving in front on an RBI-single by Lesowske in the fifth inning.

Mt. Hood (18-0) plays at Clark College on Wednesday.
