Barlow pulls off a surprise at Futures tournament
OIBA FUTURES BASEBALL
First round playoff
WILSONVILLE — Barlow pulled off an extra-sweet victory to open the Futures summer baseball tournament Thursday afternoon — not only upsetting a division champ, but pulling off the 4-2 surprise at the expense of cross-town rival Gresham.
"I know most of the guys on that team, so it feels good to come out here and give them a run for their money," said Bruins' starting pitcher Ben Zimmerman.
The Bruins built a 4-1 lead midway through the game and put on some stellar defense to keep Gresham at bay down the stretch.
Preston Horvath came up with a diving catch in the dirt that stranded the tying run on base in the fifth, and shortstop Carter Serafini gloved a tricky roller to kill another rally in the sixth.
Barlow returned to the field Friday and lost a 12-2 decision to Tigard in the quarterfinals.
