GreyWolves pick up the summer's first sweep
WEST COAST LEAGUE BASEBALL
The Bend Elks saved their best for last, but it wasn't good enough to stop the Gresham GreyWolves, who finished off a three-game road sweep with a 6-3 win Friday night.
Bend sent their ace Kris Jackson to the mound, and Gresham sent him back to the bullpen early with seven hits over the first five innings on its way to a 4-0 lead.
Gresham saw four players finish with multiple hits, while Gresham starter Andrew Hansen struck out eight through the first six innings before giving way to Carter Buuck, who struck out six more on his way to the finish line.
"It was nice to get over that hump," GreyWolves coach Justin Barchus said. "We haven't been very good in those deciding games this summer, but the guys are starting to feel some confidence — we're on a bit of a roll."
The sweep gets Gresham back to .500 in the second-half standings — three games back of South Division-leading Cowlitz.
The GreyWolves begin a three-game set with North-leading Victoria starting Saturday at 6:35 p.m. at Oslund Field and carrying through Monday night. Gresham goes for another sweep when it hosts Walla Walla in a floater game at 6:35 p.m. Tuesday night.
