The Barlow girls win four straight games at the middle school championships in Bend

Barlow's seventh-grade girls basketball team closed out a dominating season with a run to the middle school state championship last weekend in Bend.

The Bruins defeated Willamette 37-28 in the title game 37-28, led by Rilyn Quirke with 16 points.

"We don't give up many points — that is what separates us from other teams," coach Donny Payne said. "We play good team defense and thrive on ball pressure."

The team won their first three games by an average of more than 35 points.

• Barlow's eighth-grade team finished fourth out of 20 teams in Bend, reaching the semifinals after scoring a 37-33 win over West Linn.
