PORTLAND — The David Douglas baseball team picked up its first win in almost two years with a 7-5 decision over Roosevelt at Sckavone Field on Monday.
The Scots never trailed in the game, seeming to break things open with a four-run spurt in the sixth inning. Pitcher Kadyn Shelton helped his own cause with an RBI-single over second base, and Jermaine Robinson finished the rally with an RBI-single into left field for a 7-1 lead.
Roosevelt answered with four runs in its final at-bats, but the Scots kept the tying run in the on-deck circle when Dakota Lohmeier scooped up a ball on the right side and flipped it to Shelton, who won the foot race to first base to end the game.
