Barlow sees its lead vanish in the late innings
SANDY — Barlow's softball team took a 10-4 lead into the late innings Thursday, but was frozen out down the stretch in an 11-10 loss to Sandy.
Under the lights with a mix of rain and snow falling to the turf most of the night, Sandy scored seven straight in the final two innings to pull off shocking comeback.
Barlow took a 7-4 lead with a scoring spree in the fourth inning that featured an RBI-single by Alexa Bailey, while Sammie Pemberton and Bailey each scored on a Sandy fielding error.
The Bruins extended the lead to 10-4 through five innings only to see Sandy storm back with seven runs in their last two turns at the plate.
Rookie Brooklyn Adams hit a two-run homer in the sixth, and came across with the winning run on a wild pitch in the seventh.
Jordynn Allinger scored on a passed ball, and two pitches later, Adams came home on a wild pitch for the winning run.
Barlow travels to Medford for a spring break tournament, taking on South Medford and Bend in a doubleheader on Tuesday.
