Take a run on the runway and help Hillsboro schools

On Sept. 21, you can get an up-close look at where airplanes take off and land every day at the Hillsboro Airport, and you can support the Hillsboro Schools Foundation while you’re doing it.

The first-ever “Run on the Runway 5K” is being held in conjunction with the Oregon International Air Show.

The race course winds out and around the airport, across taxiways and out to places only planes can usually go.

The event is open to just 500 runners aged 16 and older. The $45 registration fee includes a race bib, general admission ticket to the air show for Sunday, free air show parking and a Dri-fit race shirt.

The race begins at 9 a.m., and the course must be cleared by 10:30 a.m. Organizers request that runners not register if they cannot complete the 5K in one hour.

Due to time and safety restrictions, no walkers, strollers, skateboards, rollerblades, bikes, weapons, glass or pets will be allowed on the course.

Race spectators will not need a ticket to view the race, but will need a ticket to attend the air show.
