Blood drive offers free pint of ice cream for donors

While blood drives are supposed to be purely charitable, Bloodworks has a new way of attracting new donors — ice cream.

A partnership between Whole Foods Market and Bloodworks, a Seattle-based nonprofit, will bring a 'Pints-for-Pints' drive to the Tanasborne Whole Foods location on March 28. The idea is simple: sign up to give blood, and you'll get a voucher for a pint of organic Three Twins Ice Cream to use at your leisure.

"It's our first time trying it," Joe Ferrara, Bloodworks Program Manager, said of the event. "And organic ice cream goes with the Whole Foods customer base."

Bloodworks provides blood to hospitals across the Pacific Northwest, and is partnering with Whole Foods for nine such events in March, including two events in Tigard.

The event is scheduled to run from 1 to 7 p.m.
