Update: Woman found dead after Hillsboro fire
Officials with the Hillsboro Fire Department say a Hillsboro woman died after she went back into her home to find her missing cat.
The body of Cynthia Ann Stephens, 55, was found by fire crews after firefighters extinguished a blaze at 1901 S.E. Minter Bridge Road, on March 19.
Firefighters were called to the mobile home at 4:52 a.m. Arriving at the scene, crews found the home fully engulfed in flames, according to Lt. Henry Reimann with the Hillsboro Police Department.
Stephens and her husband lived in the home and both had fled at the time of the fire, Reimann said. As she approached the doorway, Stephens reportedly turned back into the mobile home to look for her pet cat. Stephens and the cat both died inside the home.
Stephen's husband was able to escape without injury, as was the family dog.
Reimann said the cause of Monday's fire was electrical in nature.
Disaster responders with the local American Red Cross are providing the family with resources for temporary housing, food, clothing, comfort kits, information about recovery services, and health and mental health services, according to the organization.
