Summer art camps will keep kids busy
Does your child have a flair for the artistic? Has she been bitten by the theater bug?
Research shows that art learning improves academic success, well-being and sparks creativity. Besides that, arts camps are just plain fun.
There are plenty of arts camps this summer in Forest Grove and Hillsboro. We've highlighted a few here:

Valley Art's education chairwoman April Hoff offers an array of classes and camps for children throughout the summer. All details and registration is at www.artingales.org.Monday Clay Play — Students will build and glaze a variety of fun ceramic items each month. Materials provided. 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. $60/month. Three Mondays each month beginning June 5/July 3/Aug. 7. Monotype Mondays — Printmaking without a press. Most Mondays. Ages 7+. Pre-registration required. 1:30 - 4 p.m. or 6-8:30 pm $30. June 12/ July 17/Aug. 21. Me & My Grown-Up — Preschool Art (2-6 years + adult) 1:30-2:30 p.m. $12 per session. Pre-registration required. Wednesdays, beginning June 14. Summer Art Club for Kids — Art media focusing on a different discipline each month. Art club is flexible enough to allow more experienced artists liberty to work on personal projects 5:30-7 p.m. $15 per session. Pre-registration required. Thursdays, beginning July 20. Summer Drawing Club — Drawing techniques to increase confidence and skill. Indoors and out, personal sketchbook will be provided for monthly participants. 11 a.m.-1 p.m. $15. Thursdays, beginning Aug. 10. Paint 4 Kids — First Fridays at Valley Art. Paint Nights aren't just for grownups. Designed for kids 7-13 to paint a colorful acrylic painting each month. 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. $20. Preregistration required. First Fridays, beginning July 7. Summer Art Camp for Kids at Valley Art — Creative activities, playground treks and picnic snacks provided. Sack lunches required for full day artists. 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. $210. July 10-13. July 10-21 — Junior Ballet Intensive for intermediate dancers, including classical ballet, character and jazz. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays. $270/$285. Rock 'n' Roll Camp — Camp Amp teaches concert production, bass, drum set, guitar, horns and vocals. Students are placed into rock bands where they learn songs for an end-of-camp live performance. All skill levels. Students must attend both weeks. July 10-July 21 , 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. $200/$250. Camp is held at Century High School, 2000 S.E. Performing & Visual Arts Camp — Hillsboro Arts Summer offers classes in performing and visual arts for youth entering grade 6 through high school. Students study with renowned musicians and educators to develop skills, techniques, discipline and self-confidence. Learn art, film/TV production, guitar, instrumental music, jazz studies and musical theater. July 10-July 21, 9 a.m. to noon. Camp is held at Century High School, 2000 S.E.
