Put on your walking shoes and get ready to step into Hillsboro's history.
Members of the Hillsboro Historical Society will lead two public tours of Jackson Street in July.
The first tour will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 15, during Celebrate Hillsboro. The second tour, along the same route, will start at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 25.
To take the tour, meet at the corner of Second Avenue and Main Street in front of the U.S. Bank. The tours are free, and donations to the Hillsboro Historical Society are welcome.
HHS President Kay Demlow and researcher Rikki Nyman, both dressed in historic costumes, will share stories of Hillsboro's past as the group explores Jackson Street, one of Hillsboro's best-preserved historic streetscapes, with many houses dating from the 1890s through the 1920s.
This was a time of rapid growth in Hillsboro, and every house on the tour has a story to tell.
