The Spartan boys finished sixth in last week's Northwest Oregon Conference track and field championships, while the girls placed a respectable third. But in spite of coming up a bit short in the race for a team title, the host Spartans qualified 16 total athletes for the state track and field championships this coming weekend, May 18-20 at Hayward Field in Eugene.

Hillsboro's Daekwon Mitchell qualified by winning both the 100 and 200 meters, and was also part of a 4x100 relay team consisting of Isaiah DiRienzo, Trevor Fernstrom, and Kobie Mendoza-Daniels that met the mark.

On the girl's side, Kennedy Taube qualified by winning both the 100 and 200 meters. Juliet Raabe also won two events, both the 100 and 300 hurdles. Naomi Johnson qualified in the discus, Savannah Weight in the high jump, and sophomore Reagan Reed by winning the long jump. Taube was also a part of a 4x100 relay team consisting of Madeline Lambing, Promise Saechao, and Reagan Reed that won and qualified for state.

Sandy won the boy's division with a tally of 176 points, with Wilsonville finishing second with 112.5, St. Helens third with 97, La Salle 80, Milwaukie 74.5, and Hillsboro 61.5.
