Liberty's Maloney shines at OSAA 6A Track and Field Championships in Eugene
Another state track and field championships is in the books, and per usual the Metro League made its mark. Jesuit and Beaverton both finished in the top-three, Sunset was 10th, and Liberty finished 14th thanks to another outstanding performance from sophomore Aidan Maloney.
The Falcon finished second in the 110 meter hurdles, tied for second in the 300 Hurdles, and third in the long jump, setting personal records in all three. Maloney ran a 14.47 in the 110, 38.57 in the 300, and long jumped 22-05, within striking distance of the event winners in each and every event.
Other Hillsboro finishers included Century's Derek Jackson who finished 13th in the discus with a throw of 44-11.50, Glencoe's James Plummer who cleared 13-06 in the pole vault and placed 9th, and Liberty's Henry Hamilton who tied for 12th in the high jump.
On the girl's side, Century standout and Portland State bound Meggie Karp finished sixth in a very competitive 3000 meters with a time of 9:59.88, and 10th in the 1500 with a time of 4:44.91. Other Hillsboro finishers included Liberty's Nicol Dorciak who finished seventh in the 300 hurdles with a time of 46.90, Glencoe's Ayana Ramberg who placed ninth in the discus with a throw of 102-90, Glencoe's Sydney Larrison who threw the javelin 109-06 and finished 12th, and Liberty's Breeze Bartle who placed 9th in the high jump.
Oregon City ended up winning the boy's division with 56 points, with Jesuit second with 51, Beaverton third with 41, Central Catholic fourth with 37, and Sheldon rounding-out the top-five with 34. Liberty had 20 points and finished 14th, while Glencoe and Century failed to score. Jesuit won the girl's division with 71 points, while West Salem was second with 57, Grants Pass third with 51, Barlow fourth with 47, and Sunset fifth with 45. Century scored 3 points and finished 34th, while Liberty scored 2 and finished tied for 35th. Glencoe failed to score.
