Gresham-based MBank has been named “Innovative Community Bank of the Year” by Western Independent Bankers (WIB) for Restructuring and Turnaround Innovation. The award was presented to MBank President and CEO Jef Baker at the WIB annual conference in Tucson, Ariz.

“All of us at MBank are honored our peers recognize our success in returning the bank to profitability,” Baker said. “At the height of the great recession and as banks across the nation were struggling to recover from the collapse of the housing market, our bank was given only a five percent chance of survival. With the commitment and leadership of an active board of directors, we overcame the odds, thanks to the dedication of our employees, the support of our investors and the innovation of our team and strategic partners.”

MBank has offices in Gresham, Gladstone, Lake Grove and in Portland at 9415 SE Stark St.

Baker is a resident of Lake Oswego.
