Lakeridge and LOHS are participating in competition

Lakeridge and Lake Oswego high schools are among dozens of schools statewide vying for a spot in the Dance and Drill Coaches Association of Oregon’s category championships. In November, teams face off in category competitions — where teams show off their moves in specific dance styles such as jazz or pom. It will be Lakeridge’s first year participating in the category competitions, although LOHS has done so before. Lakeridge placed first in the pom category and second in the jazz category last weekend, and both schools will be at competitions this weekend.

The Pacer Dance Team and Junior Pacer Dancers will present their second annual Showcase of Excellence at 7 p.m. Nov. 21 and 22 in the Lakeridge High School auditorium, 1235 Overlook Drive. The exhibition will include 29 dancers performing solo, duo, trio and small group numbers in a host of styles: ballet, contemporary, funk, hip-hop, lyrical, jazz and tap. A rendition of the Oregon School Activities Association State Dance Drill Grand Finale routine, featuring Pacer Dance Team grads, will close the show, said Brooke Mattern, head Pacer dance coach. The LOHS Lakers have earned a spot in the Universal Dance Association National Dance Team Championships in Orlando, Fla., in February, said Kendall Shepherd, LOHS varsity dance coach.
