USA National cheer event coming up in March

Lakeridge High School varsity placed eighth and Lake Oswego High varsity took seventh in the Oregon School Activities Association tournament Feb. 15 at Veterans Memorial Coliseum. The Lakers and Pacers, who earned 57.25 and 57.17 at the tourney, respectively, also will compete in the United Spirit Association National Competition March 28 to 30 in Anaheim, Calif. by: SUBMITTED PHOTO - Lake Oswego Junior High girls got fourth place at OCCA. LOHS junior Madison Reed won first place at the Oregon Cheerleading Coaches Association’s championships in the High School Individual Tumbling Division, and she made the OSAA All Star State Cheer Team.

Lakeridge High junior varsity received 10th in its division at the OCCA competition, held Feb. 16 at Portland Expo Center. Lakeridge Junior High earned first place at the OCCA event, and Lake Oswego Junior High won fourth place.

Laker Junior Cheer is Lake Oswego Junior High’s first cheer team, starting in the 2013-14 season under coach Haley Russell, said Cynthia Turley, an LOJHS parent.

“They’ve practiced hard all year. ... Christine Cooper, head Pacer Cheer team coach, said soon third- to fifth-graders from elementary schools that feed into Lakeridge junior and high schools could be competing at OCCA, too.
