Marylhurst professor to present in Japan
Laura Beer, director of the music therapy program at Marylhurst University, will be one of the featured speakers next week at the 15th World Congress of Music Therapy in Tsukuba, Japan.
The conference, which is scheduled from July 5-8, will include educational sessions, cultural events and an opportunity for music therapists and music- and health-related specialists to share papers and research. It is expected to draw 2,500 attendees.
"This event will give participants the opportunity to share the latest information, research outcomes and personal experiences from a wide variety of international perspectives," said Michiko Kato, executive director of the Japanese Music Therapy Association.
Beer will join experts from the U.S., South Africa, Japan and Norway in the conference's July 8 spotlight session, "Music in Music Therapy and the Cultural Context." She will also participate in a symposium titled "Critically Evolving: Current Trends in Arts-based Research in Music Therapy," and is scheduled to present "Crisscrossing Cultures: Eastern and Western Concepts & Practices of Music Therapy," based on her paper published in the academic journal Qualitative Inquiries in Music Therapy.
