Food market adds more healthy choices and much more

by: CLIFF NEWELL - Nick Goldschmidt thinks customers will love the little brown jugs now offered at Lamb's Nature's Choice Market.Nick Goldsmith stands out in a crowd because he is quite tall, and now he is raising Lamb’s Nature’s Choice Market to a higher level.

That’s right, the market on McVey Avenue is no longer Lamb’s Thriftway, and Goldsmith has initiated many more changes than just the name. Goldsmith is pushing Nature’s Choice in a much more organic direction and adding several key features to make the store more distinctive in a highly competitive market.

“Now we can support our local vendors who couldn’t be part of Thriftway,” Goldsmith said. “It also works better for us in getting our customers what they want. Our customers are very satisfied so far.”

Since Goldsmith makes himself so available to his customers it is an easy matter to have him give a tour of all the cool new things at Nature’s Choice.

  • A wellness section, which includes tags on product content, such as “Non GMO,” “gluten free,” “Lamb’s Organic” and “BPA free.” The shelves are chock-full of vitamins, minerals and herbal supplements, hygiene products and bulk foods.

  • The Hilltop Grill will make delicious food instantly available to anyone, just as they enter the doors of the market. The daily fare will include barbecued chicken, grilled king salmon, meatloaf, pork roast, prime rib and lasagna.

  • The new “growler station” will feature little brown jugs that can be filled with beer and cider. People can drink straight from the jug or pour it in a glass.

“Nick is keeping up with what people want to keep healthy,” said Amy Porter, who works in sales and marketing for Lamb’s. “Today, people want to be more proactive about their health, and we’re helping them do it.” by: CLIFF NEWELL - The market on McVey Avenue is no longer Lamb's Thriftway, and Nick Goldschmidt has initiated many more changes than just the name.

Goldsmith has been adding many local produce growers and has tripled the number of organic products.

Every weekend there will be a special event at Lamb’s, including tasting of natural products. In addition, Goldsmith — a resident of West Linn — will be interacting with the local community. This Saturday, 5 percent of sales that day will go to Lake Oswego schools.

Goldsmith thinks the new-look Lamb’s will leave a fresh taste in people’s mouths.

“These are changing times and we have to raise the bar,” he said. “We’re hanging in there just fine.”
