Julia Lynn Haner expected to be returned to Oregon to face federal sex trafficking charges

HanerAuthorities have tracked down and arrested former Lake Oswego High School cheerleader Julia Lynn Haner, who fled house arrest in June while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.

Haner, 19, was arrested Monday afternoon in the 2300 block of Mission Street in San Francisco after police responded to reports of a disturbance involving a person —believed to be Haner — with a firearm, according to San Francisco Police Department spokesman Gordon Shyy.

The suspect attempted to flee in a vehicle, Shyy said, but was detained at a traffic stop. Haner was discovered in the vehicle with two other people, one of whom was on searchable probation. Officers quickly retrieved a firearm from Haner, and a subsequent investigation turned up evidence that Haner was involved in human sex trafficking, Shyy said.

Haner was booked on three charges: conspiracy, carrying a concealed firearm and human sex trafficking. She is currently being held in San Francisco County Jail on the local charges; a federal hold has also been placed on Haner for the charges she faces in Portland.

The FBI had been hunting for Haner since June. She had been allowed to live at home while wearing an ankle monitoring device, but she removed the device and disappeared sometime during the weekend of June 21-22, officials said.

Haner was indicted by a federal grand jury in April on charges of sex trafficking of a minor. She is suspected of recruiting a 17-year-old former LOHS classmate to work as a prostitute and transporting her across state lines to work in Washington. The victim is not currently attending the high school.

Haner also is suspected of recruiting a 20-year-old woman who had competed with her on a cheerleading squad unaffiliated with LOHS. The woman had not started working for Haner, but told authorities a story similar to that of the 17-year-old.

The incidents occurred from about Feb. 28 to March 11, according to the indictment.

Haner attended LOHS during the 2011-12 school year and took a single class from 2012-13, but did not graduate. According to police, she started working at strip clubs after she left school.
