Lake Oswego Lions Club 4th of July Pancake Breakfast offers contest

Spring is finally here. Now we can all look forward to the sunny days and warm nights of summer.

What summer, and specifically the 4th of July, has meant to the city of Lake Oswego for the past 65 years is the Lake Oswego Lions Club Pancake Breakfast. Yes, we’ve been flipping golden brown pancakes and grilling delicious sausages for 65 years.

Although we don’t have any Lions members who have been around flipping pancakes for all those 65 years, but that got us thinking. Someone in the crowd of thousands who come back year after year to meet with their family, friends and neighbors might have been coming to the breakfast since childhood and can trace their attendance back many years. We’d like to find and honor that person. by: SUBMITTED PHOTO: COURTESY OF THE LAKE OSWEGO PUBLIC LIBRARY - Bob Young and Vern Edwards made pancakes for the Lake Oswego Lions Club Pancake Breakfast back in 1964.

Sounds like a contest to me. Here is all it takes to enter:

If you have been coming to the Lake Oswego Lions Club 4th of July Breakfast for many, many years, tell us the year you first attended in an email or letter sent to the addresses below. We’d also love to hear a line or two about your first 4th of July pancake breakfast experience.

You don’t have to have come every single year to win, we just want to find out who attended the earliest. In the event more than one person was there in the same first year, the first entry received will be honored. If you are the winner, this July 4th you will be VIP of-the- day, with all the appropriate honors. And, of course, you’ll have bragging rights as well.

Even if you weren’t the first to attend the breakfast, circle the date on your calendar. It’s a delicious breakfast, a lot of fun and a good place to meet friends and neighbors you don’t see often. And you’ll know 100 percent of the proceeds from the breakfast go to helping the LO Lions Club support many worthy charity organizations and individuals throughout the year.

Location for the 4th of July breakfast: George Rogers Park

Prices (cash or check please, we can’t do credit cards): Adults: $7, kids under 12, $5.

(And if you have been coming for a long time to the breakfast), send your entry to me at 16436 SW 133rd Terrace, Tigard , OR 97224 or email: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. See you there.

Lion Denise Gordon, Tigard, is past president of the Lake Oswego Lions Club.
