Lakeridge's season ends at No. 1 Jesuit

Lakeridge's first trip to the quarterfinals in 15 years ended in frustration on Friday at Jesuit.

After matching the Crusaders in the early-going of a back-and-forth shootout, mistakes piled up and Jesuit's offense took advantage in a 62-33 victory.

Lakeridge started as well as it could have imagined, forcing a quick three and out and then going 61 yards in five plays for an early score.

Jesuit responded with a short touchdown drive and the Pacers fumbled the ensuing kickoff, leading to another touchdown drive by the Crusaders that started in Lakeridge territory.

Jesuit would break a 56-yard run on its next possession to go up 21-7 before the Pacers answered, getting a 45-yard run from Lopeti Aisea and a 24-yard catch from JR McLaughlin to set up a short score.

But it would be all Jesuit from that point on. The Crusaders scored on six straight possessions after its opening drive, including twice in the final 90 seconds of the half to lead 42-14 at the break.

The lead would swell to 55-14 before Lakeridge would notch another score. Things got ugly in the fourth quarter as personal fouls and unsportsmanlike conduct penalties racked up and tempers flared on both sides.

While the season ended on a sour note, the Pacers hope this year will set the tone for a continued resurgence in the program.
