The boys win handily while the Wildcats edge out the Lake Oswego girls

The Lake Oswego swim teams turned in a strong performance against Westview last week. The boys team won handily 99-71, claiming victories in all but three events while the girls battled the Wildcats to the wire and dropped a close 88-81 decision.

In the boys meet, the Lakers edged out Westview in the medley relay, getting strong swims from Austin Weng, Logan Kojiro, Edward Kang and Lucas Rodgers and finished in a time of 1:47.26.

Ryan Sklar and Marco Womarans then finished 1-2 in the 200 freestyle and Rodgers and Weng followed with a 1-2 finish in the 50 free with Rodgers winning in 24.2 seconds.

Kang captured his first individual win of the night in the 100 butterfly in a time of 54.28 seconds, nearly five seconds faster than his closest competitor.

Sklar and Rodgers then went 1-2 in the 100 freestyle, picking up big points for the Lakers.

Lake Oswego would cruise to a win in the 200 freestyle relay and Kang and Weng then scored another 1-2 placement for the Lakers in the backstroke.

Kang, Rodgers, Weng and Wolmarans then capped the day with a big victory in the 400 freestyle relay.

For the girls, the medley relay team of Lisa Oldham, Abby Lyons, Maddie McMurray and Yifan Mao posted a big early victory.

Lyons then scored a win in the individual medley in a time of 2:18.61. Mao also notched an individual win, edging out Westview's top sprinter in the 50 freestyle in 25.69 seconds.

Lauren Wagner scored a dominant win in the 500 freestyle in 5:55.11 seconds and Lyons would pick up another individual win in the breaststroke. But the Wildcats' two victories in the freestyle relays were enough to put them over the top for the narrow victory.
