LOSC sees 37 athletes honored, as well as Mara Newman, Patrick Beasley and Troy Tetsuka

Lake Oswego Swim Club is continuing to prove itself to be one of the state's best.

On Nov. 12, 37 Lake Oswego Swim Club athletes were honored by Oregon Swimming with Top 5 awards during its annual awards ceremony at Canby. Oregon Swimming recognizes the top five athletes in each event in each age group every year.

Honored this year were: Jonathan Bell, Zoe Chen, Daniel Choi, Alayna Connor, Claire Cranch, Zach Deitchler, Maeve DeYoung, Audrey Gingras, Lili Haldeman, CJ Hansen, Jay Heymann, Andrew Huang, Helena Huettemeyer, Ellie Jew, Sungkook Kim, Dohyun Kim, Daniel Kim, Katie Manzione, Sarah Martin, Matty McComish, Mara Newman, Sophia Pulaski, Katie Rumsey, Nate Rumsey, Sylvan Schoenheit, Nick Simons, Rylan Smalley, Lindsay Swail, Maya Tetsuka, Aaron Tran, Annemarie Vlaic, Tenzin Wangpo, Jack Wroblewski, Isabelle Yoon, Max Burden, Emi Uchishiba-Hall and Derek Wu.

Additionally, Mara Newman was honored as the Oregon Swimming Outstanding Female Swimmer of the Year after competing at the 2017 World Championship Trials and breaking several Oregon Swimming records.

Newman, a Lakeridge senior who will attend UCLA on an athletic scholarship next year, also broke four LOSC team records and was ranked within the top 20 in the nation for 2017 in multiple events. This is the first time a Lake Oswego Swim Club athlete has received this honor.

Further, LOSC head assistant coach Patrick Beasley was recognized as one of the Oregon Age Group Coaches of the Year for his accomplishments. Beasley's swimmers placed within the top five multiple times in the region, his athletes broke several Oregon Swimming records and one was ranked within the top three in the nation.

Lastly, Troy Tetsuka was honored as the Oregon Official of the Year. Tetsuka is a longtime, dedicated volunteer who has given countless hours to both LOSC and Oregon Swimming. Tetsuka has three athletes on LOSC.

Lake Oswego Swim Club is a competitive, inclusive age group swim program with athletes ranging from beginner to national level.
