Shirley Depretto will be missed

by: SUBMITTED PHOTO - Shirley Depretto

Shirley Depretto, longtime West Linn Adult Community Center member and volunteer, passed away earlier this month. She began coming to the WLACC when the current facility first opened, to attend the painting class that continues to meet on Fridays at 10 a.m.

Depretto was born and raised in Oregon City and was a graduate of Oregon City High School. She married and had two sons and two daughters before leaving Oregon City for a house in Gladstone. Her children gave her eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Much of Depretto’s retired life was spent at baseball diamonds watching her grandkids play baseball.

In 2008, Depretto decided she’d like to do some volunteer work at the WLACC and so she signed up to be the regular Tuesday morning front desk greeter.

She said at the time, “I just like the friendliness of the WLACC. And I think it’s stimulating to meet new people.”

Depretto became an avid golfer, and on a good day could get a round of nine holes in about 40 strokes. On bad days, well, she didn’t really talk much about scores on bad days. Cataract surgery saved her lots of money in lost golf balls.

Besides the painting class and desk duty, Depretto was a regular at lunches and a terrific kitchen helper at our large holiday and Mother’s Day meals. We will miss her cheerful “good morning” greetings on Tuesdays and will keep her family in our thoughts and prayers.

Here are the upcoming week’s activities. Call the WLACC at 503-557-4704 for specific times and possible fees. Also, all lunches listed below are subject to change, but only for the better.
