Ever wonder what they do with all those flowers used in the Rose Festival parade? Here is your answer!

SUBMITTED PHOTO - Volunteers from the Bloom Project repurposed more than 700 stems from Rose Festival floats into 70 bouquets for hospice and palliative care patients throughout the Portland metro area. This is the first time the Rose Festival has partnered with the organization. Founded in 2007 by Heidi Berkman, the Bloom Project is a volunteer-driven, nonprofit organization that provides fresh floral bouquets to hospice and palliative care patients. The flowers are donated by wholesale floral companies, growers and local grocery stores, and then repurposed into beautiful bouquets ready to deliver to patients. Berkman and her team of volunteers are committed to sustainable business practices. Not only are they eco-friendly in their efforts to repurpose flowers from their partners, but also by composting their floral waste. For more information, visit
