SUBMITTED PHOTO - The holidays and winter in general can be gloomy. Add some cheer by attending A Christmas Memory with the LOACC.

At the Lake Oswego Adult Community Center we recognize that winter can play games with our emotions. Winter might cause us to reminisce about our youth, or feel haunted by holidays past. The dark winter days may make us feel isolated and lonely. Winter can also be heavy with responsibilities; there are lots of items to complete on the numerous "to do" lists, preparing for guests and keeping the family traditions alive.

The holidays are meant to be fun and festive, full of cheerful events to make the dark winter days pass more pleasantly. They are times to be spent with friends and family enjoying good food.

To enhance the holiday spirit the LOACC is taking a field trip to Portland Center Stage to see "A Christmas Memory" paired with "Winter Song" by Meredith Kaye and Brandon Wooley. We'll take in the 2 p.m. matinee Dec. 17. Cost is $40 for Lake Oswego residents and $50 for non-residents, which includes transportation and the theater ticket.

According to Wikipedia.com, "A Christmas Memory" was written by Truman Capote and originally published in Mademoiselle magazine in December 1956. The largely autobiographical story takes place in the 1930s, and describes a period of lives of the seven-year-old narrator, Buddy, and an elderly woman who is his distant cousin and best friend. The evocative narration focuses on country life, friendship and the joy of giving during the Christmas season, and also gently yet poignantly touches on loneliness and loss.

The show lasts 90 minutes without an intermission. Call today to reserve your seat for a wonderful afternoon.

The center will be closed Thursday and Friday for Thanksgiving.

Lunch service will resume Monday Nov. 27 with African sweet potato stew, and on Wednesday, Nov. 29 honey ginger pork stir fry. Cost is a suggested donation of $4 for those 60 and over and $5 for everyone else.

The LOACC is located at 505 G Ave., Lake Oswego, 97034. A list of activities and support groups can be found on our website, loacc.info, under the Calendar banner.
