Still time to prepare for holiday parade
West Linn Parks and Recreation invites all to come out and join the fun of the 2017 West Linn Holiday Parade, taking place Dec. 9. The theme for this year's parade is "Coming Home for the Holidays" and there is still time to register your entry to be in the parade. Registration and check-in starts at 9 a.m. and the parade begins down Willamette Falls Drive at 10 a.m. Join Santa after the parade at Willamette Fire Station for hot cocoa, cider and cookies. Attendees are encouraged to bring new, unwrapped toys for local children in need.
Winter break camps:
Jedi Engineering camp — The Force Awakens in this intermediary engineering course for young Jedi. Discover key engineering concepts utilizing LEGOs such as gear trains, worm drives, pneumatics and eccentric motion. Build projects using LEGO® materials such as x-wings, AT-AT walkers, pod racers, star destroyers, cloud cities, settlements, fortresses and other complex machines and structures from a galaxy far, far away. This camp is for 6 to 10 year olds, and meets from 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 18 through 22. Cost for the whole week is $156.
Minecraft Engineering Camp — Bring Minecraft to life using LEGO® parts. Build a motorized walking creeper, a terrifying ghast (hostile mob) and a motorized mine cart. This project-based camp, designed by Play-Well instructors, combines the basic format of our core engineering-themed programs based on the world of Minecraft. Students will explore real-world concepts in physics, engineering and architecture while building their favorite Minecraft objects. Students will have a blast, even without any prior experience with Minecraft or LEGO® materials. This camp will meet from 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 26 through 29. Cost is $125.
Nia Music & Movement — This ongoing class taught by Maria Milner is music and movement as medicine and an invitation to self-healing. Class encompasses the classic movement forms of the martial arts, the healing arts and dance. This class is held from 11:15 a.m. to noon Tuesday and Thursday at the Adult Community Center. The monthly rate is $45 or $7.50 per class.
