TEAM director position has been eliminated.

Chairwoman of the Arts Commission Mary Lynn Jacob, Molalla Mayor Debbie Rogge and TEAM Director Jenifer K. Hood at an artists social event. The TEAM office in Molalla will be closed and Jenifer Kay Hood’s position as director of TEAM will eliminated as of July 26.

“I am unemployed at the end of this week,” Hood said Monday. “We just decided to give up.”

TEAM, working for economic development in Molalla, will continue as a purely volunteer organization, advocating for business, running Molalla’s Main Street program and staying involved in the Rodeo Walk of Fame. But TEAM will have no one person dedicated to economic development, she said.

Molalla Mayor Debbie Rogge said economic development will be in the hands of the city, now that City Manager Dan Huff is on board.

“Dan has a strong background in economic development — that’s why we hired him,” Rogge said. “It’s time for TEAM to take a new direction, and the city will partner with TEAM to take that direction. Jenifer has done a great job for the city. She’s implemented some great things like the Rodeo Walk of Fame, worked well with the Main Street committees and kept Main Street going.”

Rogge said the city is now working hard with the county planning department “to see what things we can do for Molalla in partnership with the county.”

“When the city didn’t do economic development, TEAM did what the city didn’t, but now we don’t need a duplication of services,” she said.

Hood is looking at applying for a job as executive director of Main Street Oregon City, but said she is disappointed things didn’t work out in Molalla as hoped.

“We really could turn this town around,” she said. “We could make this town strong and vibrant and enhance its character if we had a strong economic development presence in the county and state. Now that TEAM’s gone, that presence will be much diluted.”
